25 January 2013. Today police arrested and manhandled protestors that were peacefully participating in a movement against impunity entitled “Occupy Baluwatar” which has been going on for a month. Rights activist Bhakti Sah got seriously injured from the police onslaught.
Demanding arrest of alleged perpetrators in different criminal cases and maintenance of rule of law, the motley group of demonstrators has been gathering at Baluwatar near Prime Minister’s quarter for a month every day from 9 am to 11 am. Today, the police came down hard on the demonstrators when they tried to enter the restricted area. 32 people were arrested and taken to Maharajgunj detention. They were released two hours afterwards.
