Banke, 26 May 2025: A one-day orientation programme against drug abuse was successfully conducted at the Jayendu Child Reform Home in Asmanpur on Monday.
The programme was jointly organized by Advocacy Forum-Nepal, Jayendu Child Reform Home, Hope Training and Research Centre, and District Police Office Banke. It was conducted for the children in conflict with the law residing at the Jayendu Child Reform Home (CRH) located in Asmanpur, Banke.
During the orientation, various aspects of drug abuse and legal issues were addressed by Rajan Kumar Gautam, Chairperson of Hope Training and Research Centre and also a Deputy Superintendent of Police; Advocate Basanta Gautam, Lumbini Province Coordinator of Advocacy Forum-Nepal; Inspector Shiva Thapa from the District Police Office’s Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Service Center; Bimala Kaucha Magar, In-charge of the CRH; and Advocate Suresh Kumar Gautam, among others.
In addition, Advocate Gautam responded to several queries raised by the children related to juvenile justice.
With over a hundred children in attendance, the participants collectively pledged not to engage in drug use and expressed their commitment to transforming the CRH into a drug-free environment.
The orientation program was organized in light of recent concerns that drugs have been entering CRHs, leading not to behavioural reform but rather encouraging criminal activities and violence among the residents.
Speakers in the programme emphasized that drug abuse not only destroys an individual’s personality but also contributes to criminal behaviour. They urged children to become aware and proactive in preventing drug use.
