20 October 2024, Kathmandu: The Butwal Bench of the High Court Tulsipur on Sunday passed an order to submit the Child Reform Home (CRH) operational procedure while hearing a public interest writ petition to protect children’s rights in CRH, Rupandehi.
The division bench of Judges Jagat Bahadur Thapa and Tej Prasad Sharma issued the order.
During the hearing, the judges said that they would study the CRH’s operational procedure to see whether it adheres to national and international standards. This study, they added, will help them decide the case.
Advocacy Forum-Nepal’s (AF) Lumbini Province Senior Coordinator Basanta Gautam, AF’s Lumbini Province Coordinator Indira Acharya and AF’s Executive Committee Member Shiva Prasad Gaudel pleaded the case.
Respondents to the writ petition for protection of child rights and juvenile justice include the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, Ministry of Home Affairs, CRH Rupandehi and others.
AF, along with other human rights organizations, filed the PIL writ petition requesting the order of mandamus on 12 June 2024.
Earlier, the court had issued a show cause order to the respondents on 14 June 2024.
