AF and ALRC submit statement to Human Rights Council

7 June, 2012

7 June 2012. Advocacy Forum (AF) and The Asian Legal Resource Centre (ALRC) jointly submitted a written statement under Agenda Item 4, General Debate to the Twentieth Session of Human Rights Council on 05 June 2012 drawing the attention of the latter on the recently developed political incidents in Nepal including the term expiry of the CA and its repercussion on human rights situation and peace process.

Of particular, AF and ALRC raised serious concerns on the prevalent human rights violations after the exit of the OHCHR-Nepal, the government’s failure to establish TJ mechanisms to address the past human rights violations, impunity and deteriorating human rights situations, political chaos and weak security system, fear of non-compliance to international human rights obligations and close international monitoring especially after the OHCHR’s exit. Addressing the members of the Human Rights Council as well as all states that have participated in working to ensure stability, peace and human rights in Nepal, AF and ALRC have urged to ensure that close attention is paid to current developments in the country, and consider all necessary measures to renew effective monitoring and action concerning human rights violations in Nepal.
