AF along with ICJ convened a Reflection Meeting on Nepal’s Transitional Justice Process

18 February, 2022

18 February 2022, Kathmandu: On 18 February 2022, Advocacy Forum-Nepal jointly with the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) convoked a reflection meeting among victims of armed conflict and civil societies as a follow-up to the dialogue on the TJ process with civil society organizations organized on 9 December 2021. Both the discussions were organized with an objective to reinvigorate the discourse on the transitional justice process and to share a common strategy in advancing the stalled transitional justice process. The reflection meeting commenced with the unveiling of two of ICJ’s publications entitled Decision of Supreme Court on Transitional Justice and Right to Remedy by Honorable Kalyan Shrestha former Chief Justice of Nepal.

All of the attendees representing victim groups and civil society organizations passionately deliberated the way forward for Nepal’s transitional justice movement. Attendees unanimously agreed on identifying strategies to create a conducive environment for the amendment of the flawed TRC Act by engaging in dialogues with political leaders and government authorities, exploring ways to ensure that political parties commit to include the transitional justice process credibly in their upcoming election manifesto, initiating activities to make the vetting process fair and effective, increasing media mobilization, among others.

The meeting concluded with attendees’ commitment to collective action and regular discussion in the coming days.
