22 August 2012. Responding to the writ petition filed by victims of Kapilvastu incident, the Supreme Court today issued a show cause order against the government asking it to respond within 15 days. The court also ordered for priority hearing into the case.
The victims in their petition have demanded compensation for them and prosecution of the perpetrators. Kapilvastu incident had claimed the lives of 14 people and loss of physical property worth millions. After government’s reluctance in addressing the incident, the victims knocked at the doors of the apex court.
Advocacy Forum and ICJ provided legal assistance to the victims.
