Expressing their views on the deeply entrenched culture of impunity in Nepal, key stakeholders of the Criminal Justice System in Nepal has pointed out “a glaring lack of political will” as the prime deterrent in the formation of the proposed Transitional Justice Mechanisms in Nepal.
The view to the effect was expressed during a consultation titled “Victim’s Access to Justice: Whose Concern?” organized by Advocacy Forum (AF) in the capital on 24 December, 2010. The program was attended by around 60 representatives including judges, public prosecutors, high-ranking police officials and representatives from Nepal Bar Association (NBA).
The participants unanimously agreed to iron out the kinks in the existing criminal justice system in Nepal and work together in close coordination to better ensure victim’s access to justice.
