25 October 2011. Area Police Office (APO), Kakadbhitta of Jhapa district registered an FIR on rape in 20th October against a policeman accused of torturing and raping Radha BK (name changed), 47, at 11 pm in 14th October. Lawyers representing Advocacy Forum (AF) helped the victim in preparing and lodging the FIR.
The victim on that fateful day had gone to her mother’s home to celebrate the festival of Dashain. While sitting in a shed outside custom office in Kakadbhitta, the accused approached her in the pretext of some interrogation and dragged her to the dark corner. After overpowering her in the corner, he carried out this nefarious act against her. The victim could not figure out his face due to darkness.
Although the victim went to APO, Kakadbhitta the very next day of the incident to lodge an FIR, policemen did not even allow her to enter the premises. After visiting some organizations for help to no avail, the victim came into contact of AF lawyers who had a long discussion with police officers concerned. Finally the police lodged the FIR and committed that they would carry out prompt investigation into the case.
