9 February 2022, Rupandehi: In the last four months, the Rupandehi District Court has deferred sentences in nine juvenile cases. This is a steep increase from the two cases that were deferred last year. This increase in deferral is the result of interaction program organized by Advocacy Forum-Nepal on 17 September 2021 on issues related to diversion and deferral of the cases among the stakeholders of criminal justice system.
Honorable Justice Dhan Singh Mahara and Honorable Justice Matrika Marasini of the Rupandehi District Court, had actively shared their opinions on the necessity for and obstacles in deferral and diversion of juvenile cases, and had committed to work together in the process. AF notes this as a positive initiatives taken by the Rupandehi District Court to strengthen juvenile justice. AF firmly believes that the discussions among the stakeholders targeting various problems observed in the juvenile justice system of Nepal would surely lead to similar results as well.
AF has been working relentlessly for promoting and advancing the juvenile justice system in Nepal.
