Human Rights Community in Agitation

17 April, 2012

18 April 2012. Human rights activists and leaders of the civil society launched a pressure campaign for the prompt formation of Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and Disappearance Commission (DC). Today the pressure group staged a sit-in and demonstration in front of Constituent Assembly (CA) premises at New Baneshwar, Kathmandu.

Entitled as Civil Warning, the pressure group received support even from CA Constitutional Committee president Nilambar Acharya. Addressing the demonstration, Acharya expressed full support to the issues raised by the group and also committed that he would extend any support to the campaign in capacity of a CA member.

Dr. Haribansh Tripathi, AF director, demanded the formation of the TRC and DC with international standards and also emphasized that none of the crimes listed in international law should be subjected to amnesty. Human rights activist and Civil Warning coordinator Charan Prasai stated that the agitation will continue until violators of serious human rights are brought to book.
