7 August 2011. The District Police Office (DPO) of Ramechhap today finally responded to the mandamus order of the Appellate Court of Janakpur issued on 2 November 2010 in which the court had ordered the DPO to register the FIR and initiate prompt investigation vis-à-vis the arrest and subsequent killing of 5 people back on 24 Oct 2002. All of them were allegedly charged of being Maoists.
Netra Bahadur Karki, Raj Kumar K.C. Tek Bahadur Basnet and Prakash Basnet were arrested from various places of Ramechhap district on various dates and brutally killed by the security personnel on 24 Oct 2002 while Dayanarayan Shrestha was arrested on 1 Nov 2002 and killed on the same day.
As a part of AF’s Mission FIR carried out on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, the victim’s family had tried to file a complaint on 10 Dec 2009. It was only on 2 Nov 2010 the order of mandamus was issued by the court against the DPO of Ramechhap. AF has been providing legal assistance in the case.
