AWC calls on OHCHR Report Implementation

12 October, 2012

12 October 2012. Welcoming the recently released ‘Nepal Conflict Report-2012’ of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Accountability Watch Committee (AWC), a loose forum of human rights defenders, has demanded that the government effectively implement the recommendations of the OHCHR.

In its report the OHCHR has recommended the government to identify the incidents of the conflict amounting to a violation of human rights and humanitarian law, undertake independent and impartial investigation of the incidents and end impunity by punishing the perpetrators involved. In its press release the AWC has also expressed its deep concern over the government’s recent decision to promote two security officials and withdraw the cases sub judice before the court against persons involved in serious human rights violations.
