
12 December 2023, Kathmandu: Advocacy Forum-Nepal (AF), in coordination with different civil society organizations, organized various events to commemorate the 75th International Human Rights Day.
Commemoration programmes under the international theme “Consolidating and Sustaining Human Rights Culture into the Future” were organized in different provinces on 9 and 10 December 2023.
Human rights defenders, representatives from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, civil society members, and media gathered to reaffirm their commitment for the protection of the fundamental rights outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
Activities under the commemoration included an interaction programme in Birendranagar, Surkhet, on 9 December 2023 focusing on the national theme of “Ensuring Human Rights of Persons Affected by Natural Calamity and Disaster.”

On the same day, an interaction programme titled “Human Rights Defenders and Their Rights” was organized in Pokhara, Gandaki Province.

On 10 December 2023, AF organized a morning rally from Bhrikutimandap to Shanti Batika, Ratnapark, in Kathmandu, Bagmati Province.

Similar morning rallies were organized at Janakpurdham in Dhanusha district, Madhesh Province and at Dhangadhi in Sudurpaschim Province.

Coinciding with the International Human Rights Day, AF and Bright Vision Law College, Biratnagar organized an interaction programme. Chief Judge Ramesh Prasad Rajbhandari of the High Court Biratnagar and Senior Advocate Chudamani Acharya were key participants in the programme.

On 10 December, a candle lighting ceremony and consultation meeting titled “Challenges faced by Women Human Rights Defenders” took place in Butwal, Rupandehi district, Lumbini Province.
